Last time we have seen , how to find the complement of a number using ‘nikhilum’ sutra
Today we will see ,how to multiply any number with a series of 9’s in an easy way:
Example: multiply 3862 × 9999
To evaluate this ,use following steps:
1) reduce given number by 1 = 3861
2) take the complement of all digits of number 3861 with respect to 9
= 6138
3) now join both numbers as
38616138
Ex:2 Multiply 3450 × 9999
Reducing given number by 1 we get 3449
Complement of 3449 with respect to 9 is 6550
Joining two numbers we get
Answer = 34496550
Ex3: Multiply 55412 × 999999
Now there is 5 digit number and 6 digit multiplier,we convert given number as 6 digit number by adding 0 before ,hence given problem becomes:
055412 × 999999
Answer is : 055411944588
Removing the zero before
Final answer = 55411944588
It’s very quick!!
Ex:4 Multiply 318 × 99999
Adding two zeros before,
00318 × 99999
The answer is : 31799682
